This document reviews the copy dashboard functionality. This feature allows you make copies of existing dashboards and specify how you want each underlying report to copy over to your new dashboard.

:::hint{type="info"}
It is not currently possible to create copies of core dashboards.

Locked dashboards may restrict copying. Reach out to the user who locked the dashboard if a copy is needed. See [Confidential Reporting & Content Access Control](docId\:MuCHM4f6ZrjbV4r1fjn_o) for more information.

# Overview

To make a copy of an existing dashboard, select `More` > `Copy Dashboard.`

- The copy dashboard functionality is limited to admin licenses holders that have the ability to edit and create content in Ashby.

When selecting Copy Dashboard, you'll be presented with an interface to optionally use the existing reports or create new copies of reports for your new dashboard.

- **Use current**: Ashby allows the same report to be added to multiple dashboards. This will copy the report into your new dashboard using a reference to the existing report. The primary benefit of this choice is avoiding needless duplication of a report you do not plan to change.
- **Save as new**: If you plan to modify a report on the new dashboard, use this option to save the report as a new copy. On your new dashboard, you can modify the report(s) without impacting the original dashboard they were copied from.

**Copy Dashboard Options**

1. Give your new dashboard a name
2. Select whether you want to include the existing reports or save new copies
3. Optionally rename the reports you will copy over as new
4. Select `Copy` to create your new dashboard

## FAQ

:::ExpandableHeading
### What happens if I copy a [confidential dashboard](docId\:MuCHM4f6ZrjbV4r1fjn_o)?

The new dashboard copy will inherit the same privacy and access controls of the source dashboard. These can be modified on the new dashboard after a copy is made, if required. Please review the confidential reporting documentation for more information [Confidential Reporting & Content Access Control](docId\:MuCHM4f6ZrjbV4r1fjn_o).

### Why would I save a report as a new copy, or why would I use the current report in a new dashboard?

Depending on your use case, you may want to have a uniquely filtered or modified report per dashboard copy. In this case, you'd want to use the save as new option per report. However, sometimes it's useful to reference the same report on multiple dashboards. The primary advantage of this is that if you need to update the underlying report, you can do so in one, and then all dashboards which reference the report will be updated.
